Thoughts: Lowepro Passport Sling

Bought this a couple of days back, from Cathay Photos.
At a promotional price of SGD 63, it came with freebies – a cap and lanyard (good to have).

My 50D with 18-200mm lens fitted perfectly in the padding box, with space for an additional macro lens / flash and all the other stuff (eg. wallet, ipod, phone, water bottle).

The only thing I’m slightly worried about, is the sewing for each end of the strap…
Insufficient, as said on my photo blog, still feel so after using it for a couple of days.

It would be good if they can add a few more stitches to it (what i will do), give a few more inches to the strap as leeway before sewing for future batches.Ā  I’m pretty sure those who are going to get it, will probably want more assurance for peace of mind while carrying their gears.

Summarized:
– quite spacious
– decently priced
– need to improve on strap end sewing

It’s worth getting, if you are looking for an easy to access camera sling bag, for short trips and light daily use šŸ™‚

Getting quite a few searches for this bag, here are more views of it. My apologies if it’s not up to standard, i’m not a professional photographer or reviewer, just sharing.

Updated (15th Jan 2011):

A quick update, for all the photographers searching for the review.

I’ve been using it for almost 10months (almost daily) and so far, I’m really happy with it.
Especially when i use it daily for work than have it hold purely for gears.

The bag or strap is able to hold my Canon 50D, 18-200mm lens, a camera pouch with 50mm 1.8, a water bottle (500ml), a foldable umbrella (sometimes a folded tripod) and camera accessories. That’s about 4 – 5kg worth of stuff and still no signs of giving way (or so i feared when i first got it). (note: i always overstuff my bags, not a good thing but it should give you a rough idea how reliable this bag has been so far)

The exterior has been water resistant, I’ve not had any issues so far with rain / water getting into the interior of the bag. Paddings, could do with more to hold the camera body more in place but you could always find or grab some Velcro paddings from other bags and stuff it in.

Aside from that, I’ve checked out the latest batch of Passport Sling, seemed that Lowepro added an inch for the strap stitching. So they listened and improved, which is great šŸ™‚ And the latest pricing (from Cathay Photo Singapore) is around S$58.

I’ll try to do a proper post with latest photos on it, but no promises. :X
