News: Sony Singapore Helps Improve Education in South Africa with Book Donation Drive

The Sony Group of Companies in Singapore is conducting its annual book donation drive from 5th August to 25th August 2013, to support education efforts in South Africa.

Started in 2008 and now in its 6th year, the South Africa Mobile Library Project aims to enhance the lives of children through reading and members of the public are invited to help support this cause by donating new or second-hand English-language children’s books suitable for ages 6 to 12.

Recognising that education is a fundamental building-block for creating better opportunities, Sony works together with the South African government to ensure that the donated books make trips to 600 different schools in rural areas of the country in colourful mobile library vehicles, giving teachers access to even more reading materials to mold and enrich their students’ young minds.

“Innovation and education have always been a key focus for Sony since our early beginnings,” said Mr Yasuhide Yokota, Managing Director of Sony Electronics Asia Pacific and Sony Electronics (Singapore). “With the help of Singaporeans, we believe that we can provide children in South Africa with the necessary tools to nurture their inquisitive nature and ensure a brighter future for them.”

Sony is aiming to collect 13,000 books in Singapore this year, adding to the 44,000 that have been collected since 2008.

This year’s donation drive will involve three collection points across the island, giving Singaporeans more options to drop off their books, as compared to the previous year when there was only one drop-off location.

The three venues are:

  • Sony Store Wisma Atria Isetan Orchard at #04-01
  • Sony Centre Jurong Point #B1-75
  • Sony Centre Funan Digital Mall – #03-02

All English-language picture books, story books, encyclopedias and reference books for children aged 6 to 12 and in good condition are welcomed. Members of the public who donate 10 books and more will receive a small token of appreciation from Sony.

Sorry for the late sharing, was away on vacation.

To the parents, if your kids have outgrown their old reference, story or picture books, which are in good condition and you are looking to give them away, how about passing it on / drop it off at Sony Stores?
And to all others, friends and readers, do help pass on the message and give those kids more opportunities to learn.

I think it’s good to share and also help provide others with a learning opportunity / chance.
Perhaps time for me to do some spring cleaning and pass on some books, if suitable.
