Filled with action, emotion turmoils, bonds and beautiful scenes…
VIKINGS presents the extraordinary tales of the lives and epic adventures of these Vikings warriors.
Premiering in Asia, this Sunday (29 September) at 10pm on HISTORY, StarHub Cable TV Ch 401.
Thanks to History and PR team, a few of us caught the pilot and second episode before this weekend’s Asia premiere.
Though what was portrayed might not be exactly as the history books…
I feel it doesn’t over glorify or ill portray what the Vikings had done or their history but made it easier for viewers / audiences, like me, to understand it all.
The show presented the beauty of nature / mountainous scenes to audience and of course, how Vikings and various townsfolk would have lived back then, within a community, under a lordship / king, their laws and customs. Which the ‘laws’ or rules, got me wonder on what grounds did they based it on, to justify punishment or killings within the community.
No doubt dark, in terms of story.
But I simply love all that awesome scenery, interesting style of storytelling and the acting…
And well… the lead’s amazing blue eyes and toothy smirk too, heh.
In short, I’m hooked and look forward to the remaining episodes 🙂
Showing the extraordinary tales of the lives and epic adventures of these Vikings warriors are told in “VIKINGS”, a new nine-part scripted series premiering on HISTORY™. The drama portrays the world of these Dark Age raiders, traders, explorers – not from an outsider’s view, but, through the eyes of Viking society.
VIKINGS follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel, The Beast, Baytown Outlaws), a curious, compelling man who is always looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer. With the help of his jester friend Floki, (Gustaf Skarsgard, The Way Back), they build a new generation of boats – faster, sleeker and more beautifully crafted than anything else on the sea. The series will also delve into how the Vikings – the last pagans – worshipped ancient gods like Odin, Thor, Freya and Loki. Ragnar claims to be a direct descendant of the Norse god Odin, who, as well as being the god of warriors slain in battle, is also the god of curiosity.
While VIKINGS is filled with conflict, warfare and bloodshed – for these were extreme times – it is a family saga at heart. A young farmer and family man, Ragnar is deeply frustrated by the unadventurous policies of his local chieftain, Earl Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment, Usual Suspects, Millers Crossing), who continues to send his Vikings raiders east every summer, to the Baltic states and Russia, whose populations are as materially poor as themselves.
Just to add, there’s a contest as well for viewers / audience.
Watch Vikings, take note of the code that appeared on tv episode telecast and stand a chance to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle 🙂
