News: Sony introduced new Sony Alpha a5000 at CES 2014

Earlier this month, Sony introduced its Sony Alpha a5000, the world’s lightest interchangeable lens digital camera, at CES 2014.

Built with a large 20.1 effective megapixel Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X™ processor, it too comes with built in Wi-Fi and NFC. The Alpha a5000 is set to produces exquisite images despite its petite size while giving users creative control over image editing.

The new 5000 puts pro-style picture quality in a beautifully designed body that fits easily in your pocket. While weighing just 210g (estimated, without lens attached), its compact body accommodates a built-in flash to brighten dimly-lit scenes. The camera’s handgrip has been re-styled for steady handling with any E-mount lens attached.

Selfies are made easy, thanks to the cameras’ comfortable hand grip and 180° tiltable LCD screen that flips for perfect framing with the 5000 held at arm’s length. By using it with Soft Skin Effect, which automatically smoothen wrinkles and dullness for more beautiful looking skin on detected faces, users can produce even more attractive images.

There’s also a handily-placed lever on the camera body for fingertip adjustment of optical zoom without struggling to reach controls on the lens barrel. Which I’m sure the

With the on-board Wi-Fi, it allows one-touch connection with your Xperia or NFC-compatible Android smartphone or tablet, making photo sharing effortless and readily onto mobile. And with a single touch, activates the Smart Remote Control, linking the camera with a smartphone or tablet to view shots, or fire the shutter from a distance (useful for travelers or firework shooting).

Unique to Sony, Photo Creativity puts intuitive control over settings like Picture Effect and Background Defocus within everyone’s reach. Press a button and use the control wheel to instantly see the effect of picture adjustments on the LCD screen, with an on-screen description to guide less experienced photographers.

The Alpha a5000 will be available at all Sony stores and authorised outlets from February 2014.
Colors and retail pricing will be advised later.

Based on the press release and some US review write up, it does look good in terms of form. And I like that the on-off button is located slightly away from shutter button when/if compared to the NEX 5T (which I will discuss more in another post).

I look forward to seeing it in stores and hopefully a chance to try it out 🙂

    1. Thanks dearie for commenting 🙂

Yeah, on specs it does look lovely. Tried the Olympus Pen, enjoying it and learning the functions while figuring a work around for the lens issue 🙂
