It’s has been a while since street opera performances littered the streets, being the only entertainment for Singaporeans during that time where everyone once ago gathered at one location, enthralled by the performance happening on the makeshift stage.
Singapore Kindness Movement decided to bring back Traditional Chinese Street Opera with an event like no other. Performances by Nick Shen and various other Chinese Opera troupes such as 新新荣和潮剧团 and 老塞桃园潮剧团. It’ll be an unforgettable night as these two troupes come together for the first time to re-enact classics from Teochew Opera.
There will also be Cantonese and Hokkien Opera performances by Nick Shen (沈炜竣) and African children fluent in Chinese and Wushu from Amitofu Care Centre. So head on down to Telok Ayer Green Community Centre, for a fun filled night of Opera under the moonlight!
Date: 20th July (this Sunday)
Time: from 6pm
Place: Telok Ayer Green CC
Cost: Admission is free
Note: Bring your own chairs or floor mats
Though I’m unable to attend, I hope all who are attending, snapping photos and performing will have a great time!
